Diane, I am sure I will print out those codes one day if I am traveling or something. What is nice about the authenticator app over a text message is the authenticator app does not rely on cell service or data service on the phone. It is a standalone app that randomly creates codes for me based on my Google account. If I am in a bad cell service area I might not get a text message and I might not have printed out the code sheet. I always have my phone with me and as long as the phone has battery power, I can always get a code.
Just a personal preference.
