I've personally modified the 0.9.10b5 XPI file (for my personal usage) to install on a newer version of Firefox beta.
Open the XPI like a ZIP file, extract the install.rdf file, open it with Notepad, and modify the max version to the version that you use (ie: 3.1b3pre to 3.1b3). Insert the modified install.rdf back into the XPI, and install. Be aware that this might work, but there might be some incompatibilities or breakup that you might have to face at your own risk. I suggest you to do a backup of your Google Bookmarks before doing so (in the Manage Bookmarks page of the Gmarks extension.)
