Smoke tests passed when I merged master to SPAD, so I've merged SPAD back into
master. The master branch is pushed ready for Steve C. to start up a full test
run.

Procedure should be:
- Merge master down to SPAD again, to get recent modifications
- Rebuild SPAD branch and perform basic testing - I don't think a full
regression test is necessary since so few scripts use the SPAD-related code
- Merge SPAD into master
I have not successfully merged using SourceTree on my Mac. So maybe John would
be the one to do the merges.
