Hi All,

Thanks for creating the ticket. Can you attach the following information to
the ticket at http://bugs.gmatcentral.org/browse/GMT-6975 ?

This will help the CCB with their work.

  1. What is INP?
  2. What is current GMAT version being used?
  3. Can you give examples of current error message?
  4. What type of errors do you expect to see in November?
  5. Can you attach a slimmed-down script showing the errors?
  6. How serious of an issue is this? Are you requesting that the GMAT team
deliver a Beta Release using the new SPICE version? If so, by what date?

Regards,
Steve

Good afternoon Steve,
Our scripts are very much workspace dependent with data and symlinks. I
would be happy to stop by and show you the execution and its output. In the
meantime Jorge will create a JIRA ticket with the information collected of the
spice error. Please let me know if meeting face to face is a possibility for
you or one of your teammates.
Thanks,
Eduardo

Subject: RE: Issues with ACE INP

Yes, I saw the email but I couldn’t tell if it was a GMAT or SPICE issue.

At this point, can you have someone put in a JIRA ticket with enough
information for someone using GMAT to duplicate the error?

As I talked about today, it is best to attach a slimmed down script, isolating
the issue of concern, if you can. Mention what version of GMAT you are using,
etc.

The ticket will then be reviewed by the GMAT CCB.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I have not heard back from you regarding the ACE INP issue.

Below is an email thread with the NaaS developer, Eduardo, regarding his
investigation into the error message. Please see the passage below regarding
his most recent findings, which appear to point to a GMAT related issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and best regards,
Jennifer

Subject: Re: SPICE Toolkit 66

I downloaded and compiled the spice toolkit. As I examined and compared the
binaries we had I found that we already have version N0066 in
/opt/naas/share/ephem_tools. Further it appears that the output comes from the
execution of GMAT scripts which are independent of the binaries we keep in the
ephem_tools. I am suspecting that this has something to do with GMAT’s own use
of the spice toolkit at version N0065. Further, I found that the spkpos_c
noted in the error message does indeed exist as a C file. It doesn’t make it to
an executable of its own, but appears to be linked to a static library file
cspice.a.

So who do we talk to about the GMAT spice tool usage? Do I have to pour through
the GMAT code for that stuff?

Eduardo

Subject: SPICE Toolkit 66

Hi Eduardo,

Here is the link to the latest SPICE Toolkit.

Could you please download and deploy it to the test system so we can test the
ACE INP script with it to determine if the newer toolkit resolves the error
being reported in the GMATSpiceKernelError log files starting July 16.

https://naif.jpl.nasa.gov/naif/toolkit.html

Here is the error message.

Jennifer I looked at the files available in the ftp sites. I can tell the
contents are not the same as formatted. The one we have has the following
starting ascii dump (using octal dump):

0000000 J P L sp P l a n e t a r y sp E p

0000320 - 0 0 : 0 0 : 0 0 sp nl nul nul nul nul nul

I can also tell you that data/planetary_ephem/leDE1900.421 is not updated by
the GMATFileManger. Do you know if the ascii file from the site can be
converted into the one we keep? Are we sure that is the correct file? Can you
run this error by one of the GMAT folks to see if they have a similar
understanding?

Thanks,
Eduardo

Hi Jorge and Eduardo,

Sorry I had doctors’ appointments for my kids yesterday, which took way longer
than expected. So just catching up.

Regarding the SPICE warning messages - I do not recall seeing these errors
before. May be related to the SLP DE ephemeris file. Here is the info on
DE421 from JPL website

The DE421 ephemeris may be downloaded in an ascii version from
ftp://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/eph/planets/ascii/de421
.
The complete set of input parameters for the solar system integration is part
of the file. The SPICE
kernel version of DE421 is available at
ftp://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/eph/planets/bsp

Best regards,
Jennifer

I am seeing an extra error log file in var/log of your workspace. I suspect
this has to do with the issue you are seeing.
Is the following a message either of you understand?
