Hello GMAT Mac Users,

GMAT R2025a was recently released to the public for Windows, Linux, and Mac
operating systems.
The GMAT macOS application contains limitations that were highlighted in the
R2025a User Guide but this announcement is intended to provide our Mac
community more awareness of the situation.

The following are the most prominent GMAT R2025a macOS limitations:

  * The R2025a GMAT application is not notarized and will require extra steps
to be installed on a user's machine. A conflict with the Apple notarization
process and one of our software components was encountered during our software
release process and there was insufficient resources to assess & fix the
conflict.
     * An installation guide to assist users with this release's installation
is at the following wiki: Mac R2025a Installation
Guidance<https://gmat.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=2921332741>
     * The issue is tracked in ticket
GMT-8339<https://gmat.atlassian.net/browse/GMT-8339>
  * Mac machines running on intel chipsets will not be able to open the GMAT
R2025a application since it is only compatible with the silicon chipsets.
     * A rebuild of the R2025a code with adjustments for the intel chipset
would be necessary. After the adjustments for the intel chipset are made the
GMAT compile instructions can be used create the application. The GMAT compile
instructions are at the following wiki: Compiling GMAT (CMake Build
System)<https://gmat.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=380273355>
.
There are likely some unique Mac related configuration that needs to be added
to that wiki so if anyone comes across discrepancies there please add a comment
to that wiki so we can update it.
     * The issue is tracked in ticket
GMT-8340<https://gmat.atlassian.net/browse/GMT-8340>
  * The OrbitView and GroundTrack visualization components are not compatible
with the Mac. Attempts to use these components in the GUI will cause the
application to hang. The script can be run in the console (headless)
application without an issue.
     * This is the reason why Mac users attempting to run the default mission
will experience the application hanging.
     * The GMAT team has scheduled time to address this by the next public
release.
     * The issue is tracked in ticket
GMT-8322<https://gmat.atlassian.net/browse/GMT-8322>

If your organization is reliant on the GMAT macOS application or would like to
be reliant on it and you are interested in a partnership to address GMAT issues
or improvements for the Mac for future releases, feel free to reach out to me.
Some ways to reach out to me is my GMAT Atlassian profile contact information
that is located at https://gmat.atlassian.net/jira/people/ or you can find me
on LinkedIn and message me there.

We appreciate the GMAT Mac community members providing us with assistance and
encouragement as we address issues that impact the Mac. The GMAT development
team staffing is lean and without a dedicated Mac developer progress in this
area is slower than desired so community support goes a long way.

Thanks for all the support,
