If ffplay doesn't crash but gmerlin-avdecoder does, I'd suppose it's my problem. In gmerlin itself I have a blacklist of file extensions (e.g. pdf), which prevent them from being opened. In the meantime I consider it save to use the svn versions of gavl and gmerlin-avdecoders. I'm hacking mostly in the gmerlin directory.
