Hi xingya,

Please reply to the mailing list as well so that the resolution of the
problem can be archived.

There is clearly something very wrong with you cpan shell configuration.
Have you ever used the cpan shell before trying to install gbrowse? (If
you don't know what the cpan shell is, the answer is probably 'no'.) If
not, when you first ran the net installer, you should have been asked
some configuration questions including what continent and country your
were in, if you were using a proxy and what cpan mirror to use. Did
that happen?

To reconfigure cpan, on the command line, run

  sudo cpan

and then when you are in cpan, type

  o conf init

and it will run through the configuration again. Make sure that if you
are using a proxy, to configure it correctly. After you do that you can
rerun the install:

  sudo perl gbrowse_netinstall.pl

Sorry this didn't work for you the first time; I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 so
it is usually a pretty well tested platform for GBrowse.
