I should be more clear: I would *expect* a BIOS upgrade to fix this.
Intel provided firmware fixes perhaps 6 months ago to motherboard
manufacturers, and this would have appeared in any subsequent BIOS
release.

But with or without BIOS fixes, GMP 6.1.1 will resolve this issue as
upgrading BIOS is not a task for everyone.

(Of course, we cannot be completely sure that our assumptions about the
cause of the problems observed by you are caused by the faulty Pentium
chips are correct.  But I would almost bet and arm and a leg they are.)
