Gmsh's internal CAD module is really not designed to handle trimmed patches.
For spheres there's an undocumented hack you can use: add "In
Sphere{id_of_center_point}" in the definition of the ruled to force the surface
to be spherical: e.g.
Ruled Surface(20000) = {15,16001} In Sphere{1};
