Dear Vanessa,

I am also a PhD students, from Belgium, and I am one of the developpers behind the high-order mesh functionality of Gmsh.

There is currently still a lot of work going into that, so the changes are fairly frequent. But currently, for simple geometries, it should be suitable, especially if you use tetrahedral meshes.

For hybrid meshes, you should be able to create second order meshes as of now, but support for higher orders need to be implemented for pyramids and prisms.

I do not know any applications in your specific field, as we do mostly turbomachinery and external aerodynamics computations, though.

If you need more information, feel free to ask!

Regards,
-Bastien Gorissen

Dear Sirs,
I'm a PhD student of Mechanical Engineering (University of Calabria,
Italy) and I'm working on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Especially
I'm interested in employing high order numerical methods for the
analisys of turbulent flows in internal combustion engines.

I would know if Gmsh is suitable for the generation of the calculation
grid to obtain a high order representation of the geometry in this context.

In particular, could you tell me if Gmsh is able to generate 3D high
order mesh for simple geometric configuration in internal combustion
engines, for example intake ducts or cylinder?
Do you know some Gmsh applications for resolution of turbulent flows in
internal combustion engines?

Thank you for your attention.

Best Regards,

Vanessa Covello
