Hi Norbert,
Well, it seems the issue has nothing to do with Gmsh. There is something
wrong with OpenGL installed on your computer, and Gmsh crashes trying to
open its GUI (which is based on OpenGL and FLTK). You can check that
Gmsh works typing:
gmsh --info

The first 5 error messages are not there anymore, but there is an
other problem.
When I type glxgears in the terminal, the answer is:

Hello,
Gmsh 2.8.3 is installed on my laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32 bits OS.
When I double-clic on Gmsh icon, the Gmsh 2.8.3 window opens and
suddenly closes after approximately 1 second.
When I try to open Gmsh 2.8.3 with the terminal, the following message
appears:
