Dear Colleague,

In January 28-30, 2009, we will organize a Coarse Graining Workshop in Helsinki, Finland. The workshop will deal with large-scale simulations of biological and soft matter systems.

In addition to topics related to coarse graining in general, the workshop also strongly focuses on the (coarse grained) MARTINI model used together with the GROMACS simulation suite. The MARTINI model has become one of the most promising simulation tools for studies of phenomena and processes taking place in biological and soft matter. The invited speakers include many of its key developers such a Siewert-Jan Marrink and Alex de Vries.

The Workshop includes invited and contributed talks complemented by hands-on exercises and tutorials, where the exercises (focusing on the MARTINI model) arranged in the afternoon are supervised by the lecturers and their group members acting as assistants. The applications considered by the MARTINI model will focus on lipid and protein systems, with partial work also addressing carbohydrates. The number of participants for the hands-on exercises is limited.

For registration and more information of the workshop, please see:

Please distribute this message to your group members and colleagues who you think might be interested in this event. You can also print a flyer from the workshop page to your notice board.

With best regards,

Dr. Atte Sillanpää and Prof. Ilpo Vattulainen
