I dunno if it is related, but expose events of the windows (hide portions of the gnash window and then un-hide them) should also force redraw of those portions. Also, I've tried resizing a gtk window with agg backend and even in this case the buffer is not redrawn all (althought new stuff is rendered with the new correct size).
