Ehm... you'd need a working copy with a 'sticky' tag of release_0_7_2.
I usually create a separate dir for it, ie:
# cp -R gnash-head gnash-0.7.2-branch
# cd gnash-0.7.2-branch; cvs update -r 'release_0_7_2'
Now, you may copy the new versions gnash-head to the gnash-0.7.2-branch
directory and commit from there...
(there might be simpler ways, but I don't know them)
