Why do you think it is an in appropriate abuse of power?
I think it is done to make gnash more secure.

If you can be sure to discern "good" sites from "bad" sites.

I don;t think provision of software necessarily bestows the ability to
discern good from bad (if such a thing exists) and have lived under
the UK keyword-based censorship of the internet in schools and in the
public libraries to be very diffident of any third-party censoring
mechanism.

I think the site-specific banning must be judged by each individual to
be fair; otherwise we set ourselves up as
we-know-what-is-best-for-everyone-else which, from history's lesson,
is a dodgy stance to take.
