Sorry to double post but I thought I'd make a quick update. I got it 
working again, I had to pass --with-plugindir=/usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins 
to configure. It was installing straight into $home/.firefox/plugins 
before. I still not sure why it stopped working as I've never 
passed --with-plugindir to configure before.

Oh well, at least I can try gnash out again.
