They don't extract it from the swf, but from the argument/parameter passed to
the swf. I even think they extract it just from the url. I actually made a
similar script to play video from youtube without flash, it might help you:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6011 The script requires firefox and the
greasemonkey extension, but it might give you an idea of what's happening.
