Aha - a fellow Mandriva user!

Mandriva has a fairly recent CVS (December 2007) build in the 2008 backport 
repositories, which is much more up-to-date and quite likely more stable than 
0.8.1, so if you don't want to build from head (which is the best option), you 
should at least use that.

Building Gnash yourself on Mandriva is unproblematic - all the required 
libraries and devel packages are available.
