I did a "make clean" and recompiled, but no dice. I have gcc version 4.0.2 20051125 installed, which is the latest available via yum. Would you recommend that I manually install a newer version?

I'd try recompiling after a "make clean". This is not a Gnash problem
I think but a GCC/build one. I'd also try a different compiler version
if need be.
