I've tried it out, but it doesn't seem to change (or create if it's
missing) the file /boot/boot.cfg. That file is needed to boot metad:
default 0

showmenu 1
title gNewSense metad - hda1
kernel (wd0,0)/boot/vmlinux-2.6.31.6-libre1
initrd (wd0,0)/boot/initrd.img-2.6.31.6-libre1
