gNewSense 3.0 is based on Debian 6.0, which shipped OOo 3.2. I think the next version of gNewSense will be based on 7.0 which includes LibreOffice 3.5. I think Sam Geeraerts (gNewSense project leader) said that he wouldn't work on backports for the current gNewSense release because of the limited support lifetime of Debian 6.0.
