I forgot to mention one more thing. I tried 'drip' - which is a 'GNOME application for encoding a DivX from a DVD'. However, I get the message:
libdvdcss is not installed, most DVD disks wont be readable! To get this working install libdvdcss, recompile libdvdread and recompile Drip. After that all DVD's should read just fine. when I start it. Which is nonsense as I do have libdvdcss2 installed on my computer. Would I be safe installing libdvdcss or is there a risk of messing up my dependencies? The last thing I need is to recompile Drip or libdvdread, but there does not seem an option in drip to point it to libdvdcss2.
