in KDE as far as I remember they flashstick should show up on your desktop.
Go to KDE's preferences or setup and make sure the icon for mounted and
unmounted flash drives are checked to show up on your desktop.

also - just a thought here: what is the filesystem on your USB stick?

lastly - is that only one USB device which you can see or all. hav you tried
others?

I'm using gNewSense-KDE :). However, KDE also has a Storage Media
quasi-folder and it doesn't show up.
