Matt --

You and me both: I blogged at
http://larrytheopensourceguy.wordpress.comthat Mandriva would be the
next distro domino, with the Redmond Death Star
targeting Mandriva to get a foothold in Europe

No one is happier to be wrong than I am, and when you compare the rambling
apologia by Linspire's Kevin Carmony to the more well-written statement that
you've linked below, you can see who is trying to cover his tracks and who
is rightfully equating Microsoft's actions with that of mobsters.

No guarantees, true, but I think Mandriva "gets it."

Probably, this resulted from the combination of:

a. The broad reaction against the Linspire and Xandros deals

b. Our Red Hat campaign

c. Public speculation (including by me) that Mandriva would be next.

d. The prospect of GPLv3 (perhaps Mandriva, unlike Xandros, can
"predict" the final content of GPLv3 after reading the last call draft)

This statement definitely indicates they are listening to the community.
Of course, there is no guarantee they will keep their word (Linspire
did an about-face), but signing the deal will look worse now.
