Some of the comments in that bug were added by me, like the link to Debian bug #387783[1] IMO, the main question here is whether gNewSense-project accepts cdrkit as free software or not. So someone should first verify that. If cdrkit is accepted as free software, then cdrecord could be replaced with that. If not, then we might have a bigger problem.
