gNewSense is derived quite directly from Ubuntu, but has all non-free bits removed. Unfortunately there are actually quite a few of them, and removing them also removes some features, most especially in hardware support. I am not aware of anything that has been added to gNewSense as compared to Ubuntu, except for freedom and changing the packages on the live CD.

    In terms of features, I do think gNewSense is a subset of Ubuntu.
