The first note is that the audio seems low and the Video playback drags. I haven't test anything else as....
The Yeeloong is not a very fast machine and gNewSense currently uses a basic and slow video driver because the proper one is still being worked on. This might account for video playback being choppy or slow.
(getting to my QUESTION: for some reason the administrative access isn't reponding to any of the passwords I usuallly use to login to when I try to make system changes. I haven't booted out yet as I am afraid to be locked out of the system.
Which administrative programs are you trying to use? What do you see when you start them?
See if a different method works, e.g. press Alt+F2, type "gksudo synaptic" and press Enter. That should ask for the password of your user account and then start the package manager.
