This specific release probably won't work: older kernels before -gnu1 releases won't load this firmware since at that time it was nonfree. I'm not sure if there are binaries for gNewSense on x86: use a kernel From http://jxself.org/linux-libre/ there, on mipsel there are current releases at http://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/lemote/gnewsense/.
