You used to be able to use the web version to navigate a route. Google Maps + traffic warnings/alerts overlaid. When Google bought them, that went away and navigation is only done on the phone app. In real time so it needs an internet connection while in use. I have a wifi only Android. No data when in the car. If I have Wifi, I usually have my computer w/ a bigger screen. Maybe the Waze info will get added into maps.
