We had talked about this, but I thought that we decided that what we really
needed was an organizational meeting.

This is exactly why we need an organizational meeting ASAP. I'm hoping that
the right set of people who want to be organizers come together on the 12th,
and that we come away with probably a small group of people responsible for
each regional sub-group (without being overly fragmented -- Durham, Merrimack
Valley?) This way, we retain the strength-in-numbers of gnhlug, yet provide
more local access to folks.
So, if we're organized about it, plan the subchapters wisely, and have
dedicated people in each 'subchapter' if you will, we will still have
a strong gnhlug membership with excellent talks, on a predictable schedule.
So, everyone, especially those who want to be involved with meeting planning
each month, consider this to be a preannouncement: we'll have an organizational
meeting on the 12th in Nashua someplace at 7PM. I'll send out a location
and directions later today.
Here is a proposed agenda:
* discussion of gnhlug strengths/weaknesses
- lots of dedicated folks (s)
- very wide area of intended coverage (w)
* pros/cons of 'subchapter' model
- able to reach wide audience each month (p)
- subcommittee can concentrate on local publicity (p)
- can concentrate on needs of local group (p)
- concern over too much fragmentation (c)
* rules of thumb for a sensible subchapter location
- drive time after work
- locality to potential membership (university, high tech, population)
* proposals for initial subchapters
- Nashua/Merrimack Valley
- Durham/Seacoast
- Peterboro/Monadnock
- ?
* putting people on the hook as subchapter committee members
- subcommittee size
- one overall GNHLUG chairperson
- subcomittee folks also on gnhlug org. committee
* meeting schedules
