gnhlug-org, Best wishes for tonight... I **REALLY** wish I could be there... I haven't been involved as long as many of you, but the group has certainly made an impact on my life... in many ways... and I'd love to do all I can to help it continue to expand and grow. Unfortunately, the group has in a way helped me in so many ways that I now find myself annoyingly unable to get to meetings! Sigh... For my 2 cents, I think we do have to strike the balance that Rich implies in his message between too much and too little. I think GNHLUG should exist as an overall entity, helping publicize activities of the subgroups - and coordinating any joint meetings for events that occur. As we grow, there probably *is* a need for a "steering committee" or something that might have a rep or two from each of the subgroups. Maybe it's just a mailing list... maybe it is *this* mailing list. Perhaps the greatest thing GNHLUG could do would be to let the general public know how to reach the sub-groups. The GNHLUG web site could maintain a calendar of *all* events going on in NH, provide contact names and URL links to all the subgroups, etc., etc. Provide press contacts... that type of thing... help people find the local groups. I think a key is helping to publicize meeting dates. A key thing tonight, I think, is agreeing on a pattern of roughly who wants to meet when... realizing that dates may always change and nothing should be totally set in stone - but at least a tentative pattern so that people can potentially go to other groups if the speakers are interesting. But agreeing to some pattern... MonadLUG on first Thursday, MV on xxx, Seacoast on... Realizing, too, that there might be times when maddog can find an exceptional speaker that might just be brought in on a random night... For my part, I'm willing to help out in the Merrimack Valley (Concord -> Nashua) area with whatever group is there. I'll be glad to help find speakers, to speak myself at times, and help with publicity. I'd also be willing to help other subgroups with speakers or publicity if my contacts can be of any use... Good luck with it all tonight... I wish I could be there... and I'll be thinking of you all... and I look forward to whatever may emerge from your discussions.
