Hi all,

New acronym: SLL = Seacoast Linux Lab. Refers to the lab of Linux computers
being setup under the loose administration of the Seacoast Linux User's Group.
I'll include the [SLL] tag in the header of any messages relating to it, so
those who don't care can filter it out.

Good news: I solved the DHCP client problem -- the latest version of pump,
available at ftp://people.redhat.com/ewt/pump-0.7.6/ , fixed the problem
nicely. Recommended to anyone using Red Hat 6.x and DHCP.

Bad news: I discovered the hard way that these computers are old enough to
run into BIOS drive geometry problems. That is, if any file needed by LILO to
boot the system is beyond INT13 cylinder 1023, the system won't boot. I'm
going to have to reinstall all the workstations with a small root partition
(and a larger /usr) to stay below the limit. :( This does give me an excuse
to play with Red Hat's Kickstart tool, though...

The Sun workstations in the room (currently running Solaris) are all
configured with static IPs that conflict with existing machines. Therefore,
these machines should not be booted until we get a chance to replace Solaris
with Linux.

I now have a better idea of what to do and where I'm going, so hopefully
I'll spend less time thrashing next time around.
