Hi Everyone

I just caught up on my backlog of gnhlug-org mail. I was a bit out of date.
>From what I can tell it seems that next Thursday (03/02/00) night at the
NHCTC Linux lab (rm #29A) at 7:00pm would be most accommodating night to
start. So would everyone interested in getting involved with the demos
please mark your calendar for that night. Also would everyone that
volunteered to "loan" equipment please bring it this first night so we can
get an idea on what exactly we have to work with. I have a second computer
that was crashed hard by a Windows virus. I will try to get it running and
bring it. I talked to Dave Miller about bring in personnel computers to help
out and he has no problem with it.

For some reason I like the idea of a business model called Slug Inc that
makes SlugWidgets;-) Setting up a mock business for a business show just
seems to make perfect since. Each business owner will get a chance to see
Linux actually running and supporting a business and not just a couple of
cute applications running on a workstation. From what I can initially think
of it would be things like:
*Web site to advertise and order SlugWidgets.
*Data base to track and fill orders.
*Data base for payroll, inventory, sales etc. (populated databases)
*Have queries/reports set up to see and track different aspects of the
business.
*Be able to see the same information from a WinNT or a Linux machine.
*Email server
*Firewall/Security issues
*IP masqing
*Connectivity between Linux and WinNT

I know that this seems like a great deal of work, but if we start now we
can put together a quality product. I'm also not talking about reinventing
the wheel for this. Meaning if someone has access to several dbs where we
can change the "sensitive" information and use it for our demonstration,
that would be great! I don't care if we have to stoop so low as to take the
"Northwind Trader" db that comes with Office2000 or Office97 and convert it
to Slug Inc! We also need to be reasonable about this. I think it would be
better to see 5 or 6 aspects of the business run flawlessly than 10 things
run half-ass. However, the sooner we start this the more quality we can out
into it.

MARK THOSE CALENDARS AND LETS HAVE SOME FUN!!!

Rick
:-)

Another thought (or actually someone else's suggestion that i don't know
made
the list):
use SLUG, Inc for the demo - show the manufacture, sales, & distro of SLUGs.
Lets us put the demos in the perspective of business.
