I would not underestimate the impact of even a local meeting.
After all, look at what SLUG has done with the simple BUN concept..now 
LBS.

Need to remember that many non-profits have directors and overseers 
who are businesstypes who may be skeptical and quick to dismiss if 
things are not done well.

I think Linux has done well to date because it has grown in the space 
largely controlled by techically astute people.  The next step maybe 
more more difficult and the force needed to change mindshare not so 
easy. While some think all that happens at a higher level, I think our 
organizations are really the vanguard and have a major role to play.
