It should work just fine as a web server, and definitely as a gateway (I'm setting up my old 486 as my firewall/router/gateway). Also, DNS server, possibly a light duty file server, etc. SPARC 10 is 32 bit, I believe, but fairly powerful.
I don't have a problem keeping it, but, since it belongs to GNHLUG, I didn't feel comfortable holding on to it, if the group could use it (possibly as the redirector or list server for gnhlug.org?) jeff Bayard Coolidge said: >>> I have a SPARC 10 here that was given to GNHLUG. Well, I'm not familiar with the various SPARC models, so I can't tell how powerful it is. But, would it be useful as a web server or a gateway to a network? I'm thinking that any non-Intel platform in that role might reduce the susceptibility to virii and some other types of attacks. Just a thought...
