I am concerned about the fragmentation of GNHLUG.
GNHLUG is loosely defined, mostly by the web presence that we advertise and
the mailing lists (which are participated in globally). Beyond that, GNHLUG offers
only one thing to the local LUGs: economy of scale, which is important.
As GNHLUG, we gain a statewide presence that will get greater attention when we do
things as an organization. We have the ability to reach a larger group of people with a
unified interest, something that marketing people spend their lives trying to get. Using
these two benefits together, we can get higher profile speakers, and improve the
things that we do by doing so as a bigger group of people (and perhaps many more
things!) Being GNHLUG has been a factor in getting us speakers like Linus and
the NH Secretary of State, for example.
If the local LUGs advertise separate mailing lists and web sites rather than
GNHLUG, the recognition and eventually the viability of GNHLUG loses.
So, I guess to summarize my thoughts, autonomy of the local LUGs is good,
but I'd encourage those running the local LUGs to work together to preserve
GNHLUG as a whole. I think that we have more to lose than most of us
realize.

I pointed out that GNHLUG does have a server and I know that there's some support for providing the groups with their own "spaces." I realize the space is (very generously) donated, and didn't want to over-promise. What are we (GNHLUG) able to offer to us (MonadLUG)?
