As to Bill Sconce's comment:

This, to me, is like saying the purpose of life is: taxes.

Perhaps the major method that we use to move GNHLUG forward is meetings (as opposed to other methods), but "meetings" should not be the end reason why
GNHLUG exists.

If I may attempt to tease some additional meaning out of Bill's suggestion, what a perhaps subconscious part of his brain was saying is, "The unique advantage of the group is the community it engenders, made possible by real meattime."

Meeting in person enables a higher level of interpersonal relationship than is currently achievable in cyberspace. So I'll post a message to gnhlug-discuss about the kernel because I know the guys there, even though there may be more 'appropriate' folk on lkml. It's hard for most people to know more than a couple thousand other people, so I wouldn't expect the lkml guys to know me nor feel particularly motivated to help me, especially if I had a dumb question. After all, what have I done for them other than ask them repeatedly to fix broken stuff?

I wouldn't ever want to shun those who only want to participate in the lists, or perhaps are immobile, but I don't think they'll ever get the most possible out of GNHLUG.

maddog's right, the meetings aren't the end-product, but they are the gasoline (or biodiesel in Bruce's case) that makes GNHLUG go.
