Being "organized" isn't really my thing, and spare time is something
I don't have a whole heck of a lot of spare time, but I'll make the
time to at least ride shotgun for this, if nobody else can.
I'm a little trepidation offering because I don't have a working
MythTV box yet...but maybe between Jarod and I, we can collectively
cover all each other's backs?
Anyway, some additional notes....posted in January on MythTV forums:
"The tech also mentioned that the PVR-150 is being discontinued.
Instead of marketing the HVR-1600 as a new card, it seems they are
just packaging it as a PVR-150. I'm going to guess this is a marketing
decision since the PVR-150 has such good marketshare and brand
recognition. That's just my guess. I'm willing to bet any new
inventory of boxes that say PVR-150 will contain HVR-1600 cards. "

I wanted to do some Myth testing without spending much money. I
resurrected an ancient bt848 card I have (STB TV PCI, remember STB?).
After *much* knashing of teeth and some hard kernel lockups, I got it
working (with some manual option passing to the bt848 module). It
turns out you can pull audio off the pci bus with this card, but the
audio is terrible, and after all my trouble I decided to buy a cheap
framegrabber at Showtime PC.
Well that is an MSI TV @nywhere Plus. SAA7134 based card. It's
autoprobed properly, and I can get it to work in tvtime, but I get a
black screen in Myth. Apparently the tuner setting to the saa7134
driver, doesn't have good/right i2c settings which prevent the FM
Tuner from working. Loading it as a different tuner gets that working.
In neither case does the remote control work however. Recent kernel
patched submitted by a gent called Henry Wong, are supposed to fix all
this, but no idea if they got in the kernel yet.
So needless to say, I don't have a good working setup. I have an old
Zoran-based MJPEG card (no tuner) that I might dig up and take the
cable box feed. I will be picking up an IR blaster as well and testing
out IR control of cable box because there are some digital cable
channels that I'm sure are encrypted that I currently record on TiVo
(I never stopped liking cartoons, so I can't live without my Toon
Disney and Nicktoons *smirk*)
I might try buying a PVR-150 at CompUSA and cross my fingers...
