Yeah, my terminology was sloppy. > If I may posit a non-prejudiced thought-experiment: > > "A bunch of marketing folks sit down in a room to come up with some > kernel improvements" oooF! > OK, I'll shut up now. Don't you dare! Contributions and suggestions are welcomed. Even smart-aleck comments and criticism. I'd take issue with your correction of my correction. I asked to move the discussion from membership to attendance. I don't care if they sign the membership book, pick up their card, or use their secret decoder ring. My concern was the GNHLUG succeed in reaching out to people who could use the information we can provide. Marketing, on the other, other hand, simplifying, is trying to get people to have a warm fuzzy feeling about your "brand." Advertising, which is closer to asking for the sale, is nearer what I'm suggestion. Getting people to show up. Which people? The people inclined to show up because they want to learn what we'd be teaching anyway. This conversation often blossoms into "who are we, what are we doing, what is our mission, where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?" but those aren't the questions I'm particularly interested in today. My question is "how do we let more people know about the meeting?" Corrolaries are that we'd prefer to target the people most likely to attend, and that we'd like to do this with minimal cost and effort. -- Ted Roche Ted Roche & Associates, LLC http://www.tedroche.com _______________________________________________ gnhlug-org mailing list gnhlug-org@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-org/
