  I think the above is a key point.  I believe there are far too many
variables compared to our sample size to achieve deep insight with
statistical analysis.  (As always, I reserve the right to be wrong.)

  Might I suggest a direct approach: Walk up to people -- especially
first-time attendees -- and ask them why they came, and what they're
looking for.  Also, perhaps, what they liked and disliked about the
presentation.

  We could also do surveys, but I think our present attendance
population is small enough that surveys will obstruct insight, rather
than assist it.
