This will enforce open governance of the group and keep ideas on the high-ground rather than letting them fall down the slippery slope of closed governance.
I can understand the desire to "float" an idea among friends and like-minded individuals, but at some point, it needs to be raised to the -org group. Friends don't let friends close the group. And "almost the entire" group is more than "a few friends and like-minded individuals".
