Hi all,

At the last Board meeting, the idea of having a table at one of the
local computer markets was raised again. One question was whether
such markets are obsolete in this day of web vendors. So I
volunteered to hit one and report what I found. The Northern Computer
Shows (http://www.ncshows.com/) market at Rockingham Park in Salem, NH
on Sat 17 Nov (yesterday) was deemed the best pick.

I caught the tail end of the show, arriving around 2:30 PM (30
minutes before admission closed). There were maybe 9-12 vendors,
spread out fairly thin. There were maybe around the same number of
people buying or browsing. I asked a couple vendors how business was.
One said he was going out of business. The other said it wasn't bad,
but not as good as it used to be.

All in all, I was underwhelmed. I used to hit these shows back in
the late 1990s, and things have changed. More vendors used to be
packed in tighter, and took up a larger space. Customers clogged the
isles. This was like a ghost town in comparison.

That said, there *were* vendors and buyers there, and it's possible
there were more customers in the morning (show opened at 10 AM).

Ultimately, I suspect the only way we'll know for sure how
successful our presence at one of these might be is to give it a try
and see what happens. If we can team up with a vendor who is willing
to pay for the table space (normally $125), we don't have much to
loose.
