Yes, it definitely would. Does. The number above shows where it would like
to find the root device. If you changed it from hdb to hda, you also have to
change the root device with rdev, or lilo. The boot floppy also contains hdb
now. Your best choice might be to take a rescue floppy (or cd if you have
debian), and :linux root=/dev/hdaX rw init=/bin/sh for lilo.
