I figured some people here might be interested in this guy. Basically, he's looking into actually building a PDA on simular specs to the Itsy. Please note, this is really only for people really, REALLY interested in such a beast.. ----- Forwarded message from Travis Tabbal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ----- Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2000 08:19:28 -0700 From: Travis Tabbal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: Travis Tabbal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: SA-1100 Project. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED],[EMAIL PROTECTED],[EMAIL PROTECTED],tcharron@ductape .net I'm sending this to everyone I saw post in the Slashdot discussion who wanted one, and had a valid address. Unless you reply to me, I will not be mailing you again on this subject. Are you interested in having a machine like the Itsy? If so, contact me. I posted to Slashdot, but the story went off the front page quickly after that. Below my post is quoted. I'm looking for a group to commit to buying, possibly via escrow, and/or helping with the development of the project either with work or funds. If I can get a group of about 20-30 people the cost of the prototyping becomes worth while. Please note: This unit will NOT be based on the Compaq Itsy specs. The license is a problem and I have to redesign anyway since the LCD is not available. We may be able to use thier software, I don't know yet. Travis ----- Every time we hear something about this someone or another talks about building them. Are /.'ers willing to put money on the table? How about in escrow? Anyone willing to colaborate on a project to build a handheld from the SA-1100? I am looking for SERIOUS people here. You must be willing to dedicate a significant ammount of time toward helping the project or willing to put money on the table to see it happen. There are ways to see this done, but we would have to build a lot of them. Possibly as high as a thousand units to get the parts and such at a reasonable cost. If you are only willing to buy one but don't want to help in the development effort, I want to hear from you too. Please email me how much you would consider paying for such a device and what specs you want it to have (RAM/Flash size, screen size/type, etc.). If I hear from enough people to make it worth building, I'll dust off my unfinished SA design and build a prototype. The info on the unit will be published under an Open-Source compatible license and will include all design info required to build the devices. The email address is real, all interested parties please contact me ASAP so I can get an idea of how many are really interested. ----- End forwarded message ----- --- Thomas Charron << Wanted: One decent sig >> << Preferably litle used >> << and stored in garage. ?>> ********************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the following text in the *body* (*not* the subject line) of the letter: unsubscribe gnhlug **********************************************************
