I'm no expert; I just know that various X11 Gods have expressed their
extreme dislike for it. It may have simply been the licensing issues; it may
have been something more. I'm sure the X newsgroup regulars could tell you
all about it, if you really want to know. I don't. :-)

Possibly true, but I feel that it is worth pointing out that the reason X is
still in use after all this time is that it implements such a low-level
protocol that anyone can use it for any purpose. Thus, it hasn't been
necessary to reinvent the wheel. Perhaps we should be looking at reinventing
it, but we haven't *needed* to. :-)
