I just want to add my $.02 on performance and an operational
environment. In a Unix/Linux environment, one tends to keep several
daemon processes running, such as sendmail, nsf daemons,
portmapper, and others where in the Windows environment you probably
would not.
In a tight environment, I would want to build a kernel specifically for that
environment, and configure my system with the minimal set of
requirements. If I am not using email, then maybe don't run sendmail, or
even the snmp daemon, or whatever. Then use a light windows manager
like fvwm or icewm as someone else mentioned.
