I don't know if anyone is interested... but for those who don't really
want to setup a bunch of plugins for netscape on Linux but do occasionally
want to "view" embedded plugin source with their external (~/.mailcap)
viewers, I've written a little perl script to pull out the <embed ...>
tags from a url and launch external viewers.

For example running:
% plugin http://www.hamsterdance.com
verifies for the user that URL is a complete waste of time. (as if the
100 animated gifs didn't indicate it!)
Like most of my stuff, it's not terribly polished but usually gets the
job done :-) If anyone knows of similar programs or how to coerce netscape
into doing this I'd be interested in hearing of it.
