You could change the link for /dev/mouse to point to /dev/psaux
Of course you don't say which distribution you are using....
If your on Redhat run 'mouseconfig' it's easier, and will (should)
do the right thing.
You will probably also need to change your XF86Config file to
use the correct protocol, and possibly your libvga.config file
(if you use SVGA lib). XF86Config will probably work with
the "Microsoft" protocol (shudder), but there are at least a
couple different protocols that can be used for logitech mice
depending on which mouse it is (see the XF86Config man page
for a listing of different protocols). If it's one of them
wheel mice you want "MouseManPlusPS/2" ... and you should set
ZAxisMapping 4 5
So your mouse wheel will work.
