I'm looking for at least a free windows program (and a Mac version would
be nice too) that can do secure ftp file transfers to a Linux machine that
has the sftp package installed.
The situation: We're trying to get our users to stop using ftp, and on the
Linux machines, sftp works great. However, a couple of our users need to
ftp files from Windows machines (and one Mac) and the only solution I've
found so far is safeTP. The problem is that safeTP needs to have its own
server running on the Linux machines, and the installation of it is a
nightmare (setting evironment variables, editing Makefiles and install
scripts, etc.).
My undersanding is that sftp for Linux just opens a secure shell
connection and copies files via scp. So there is no "secure ftp" daemon as
such. I don't seem to understand then why sftp clients seem so rare for
Windows.
Any suggestions would be appreciated - please respond directly to my
e-mail addr.
Thanks,
Scott
