VMS V1.0 was released in mid-October, 1977 - I don't recall the
exact date, but it was 2-3 weeks after I joined the company
on 4 Oct 77.
One of its principal architects was Dave Cutler, who eventually
left DEC for Microsoft, and was the architect for Windows NT.
